Western astrology is the system of astrology most popular in Western countries. Western astrology is historically based on Ptolemy's Tetrabiblos (2nd century CE), which in turn was a continuation of Hellenistic and ultimately Babylonian traditions.

Vedic astrology is based on the position of the constellation with respect to earth. Olden people observed stars at night and found some patterns in a group of stars. They named each one of them based on their resemblance to living creatures on the earth. For example, Virgo as the virgin, or Leo as a lion. In Vedic astrology, one stresses on the planet position according to the birth date and can predict the future or the favorable circumstances to find out the possibility of events. It is said that the position of planets affects day to day activity of human. It can affect the way we think, as well as how we respond. The roots of Vedic astrology are from Indian culture. Vedas is the primary source that consists of 4 books separately. They are Rig Veda, Sam Veda, Yajur Veda, and Atharva Veda.

Western astrology is the branch of astrology that utilizes tropical zodiac as its fundamental property. The housing system of the western astrology is based on the degree of ascendants as the beginning of the first house. We use all planets like Uranus, Pluto, and Neptune in the housing system to determine the ruling planet in the house.
